I was raised in Seaford, Long Island and now reside in Nesconset, Long Island. My interest in nature photography started in 2004 when a friend of mine showed me a "Birds & Blooms" magazine with a beautiful shot of an American Goldfinch. Not knowing anything about birds I thought that the Goldfinch was an exotic rare bird. When he told me they were a common backyard bird I said to myself I have to photograph that! So I started on my journey into bird and nature photography. Thanks to digital cameras, I thought it would be an inexpensive hobby, was I ever wrong! My first camera was a Nikon D100 with the Nikon 24-120 mm lens. I joined the Sweetbriar Nature Photography Club in Smithtown and was able to learn from the talented members of the club. The first thing I learned is that I needed more lens, so along came the Nikon 80-400mm VR Zoom. Now I could shoot some birds! After a while I traded in the D100 and the 80-400. I upgraded to the Nikon 200-400mm VR Zoom with a 1.4 teleconverter and the Nikon D300, which is what I use today. I photograph mostly birds but enjoy shooting flowers, insects, landscapes, any and all nature. My goal is to be a better photographer tomorrow than I am today. I would like to thank my wife Lynda and my children Bob, Tricia, Christopher and Danamarie for putting up with me (and the bird feeders in the yard). Without them, who would tell me what a GREAT photographer I am?
